Abstract

The transmission line modelling (TLM) method and its applications are described. Developments to the original symmetrical condensed node with stubs to increase efficiency and accuracy are presented. The manner in which wires and fine structures may be described by the hybrid variable mesh and, in particular, by the multigrid mesh are discussed. The effectiveness of these techniques in improving the description of open boundaries, increasing spatial resolution without significantly increasing the size of the computation and in describing lossy materials is demonstrated by simulation examples of antenna radiation patterns, radiation from equipment apertures and damping of screened room resonances.
