Southern Zanskar

Here are some pictures from a trip to Southern Zanskar in India in August 2004 with Exodus.

Mon 9 August: Delhi to Mandi by train then road (more road than expected because the line was washed out before Chandigarh).
Tue 10 August: Drive from Mandi to Manali.
Wed 11 August: Wait to get over the Rohtang Pass (blocked by landslide).
Thu 12 August: Drive and short walk to camp at the start of the trek.
Fri 13 August: Morning walk to camp near Jankar Sumdo (3900m).
Sat 14 August: Walk north towards the Shingo La. Camp at Chumik (4600m).
Sun 15 August: Shingo La (5000m).
Mon 16 August: North past the granite monolith of Gumburanjan to camp near Kargyak (4000m).
Tue 17 August: Along the valley, past the villages of Tanze and Karu to camp at Purni (3800m).
Wed 18 August: Phuktal Gompa (3850m).
Thu 19 August: Return from Purni through Karu and Tanze.
Fri 20 August: Ascent to Phiste La camp (4800m).
Sat 21 August: Phirtse La (5300m), descent to Chumik Marpo, camp next to the Lingti River.
Sun 22 August: Through the Tsarap valley to camp near Kilang Serai.
Mon 23 August: Towards the Leh-Manali highway.
Tue 24 August: Along the Leh-Manali highway to the Baralacha Pass (4900m) then down the Chandra Valley to camp near Topko Gongma (4600m).
Wed 25 August: Across the Gongma to camp by the Topko Yongma.
Thu 26 August: Chandra Tal, the Lake of the Moon (4250m).
Fri 27 August: Short walk from camp then to Manali by road.
Sat 28 August: From Manali to Kalka.
Sun 29 August: Train to Delhi.
